The estate
Château Vessière
In the heart of the Costières de Nîmes, at the southernmost tip of the Rhône Valley, Château Vessière, located at the gateway to the Camargue, spans 60 hectares of vineyards.
Costières de Nîmes, a terroir with character
The Costières de Nîmes AOC reflects the unique character of a terroir within the Rhône Valley. Located on a vast terrace of rounded pebbles deposited by the Rhône and Durance rivers, it is the southernmost of the Rhône Valley’s vineyards. With very sunny summers and irregular rainfall, the climate is typically Mediterranean. The stony alluvial soils promote convection, thereby preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit. This climate, unique to the Costières, profoundly shapes the appellation’s wines and is an exceptional asset for producing authentic, characterful wines.
Château Vessière, a family-owned estate
In the heart of the Costières de Nîmes, at the extreme south of the Rhône Valley, Château Vessière extends over 60 hectares of vineyards. Located at the gates of the Camargue, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir and climate. This beautiful property belonged to Miss Lucie de Vessière, who became Mrs. Teulon. The estate has since remained in the family from generation to generation.
It was in 1975 that Philippe Teulon took over after studying oenology at the Faculty of Sciences in Montpellier. The first bottling took place in 1978, but the vintage was only consumed privately. It was in 1979 that the wine was marketed in France and abroad. Over time, Philippe passed on his passion to one of his sons, Vincent. In turn, he studied oenology in Montpellier and explored the practices in use, particularly in the Napa Valley, California.
Since 2007, Vincent and his wife Lucie have continued the family history. Together, they have developed the working techniques, particularly with the conversion of the estate to organic farming and by giving a new dimension to the commercial development of the company. Currently, the couple lives on site with their two children in order to reconcile family life and demanding work. Philippe is still present on the estate every day and works closely with Vincent. Together, they strive to produce fine and elegant organic wines, for which they receive numerous awards every year.
Since 2019, the estate has also committed to biodynamic farming, controlled and supported by the Demeter organisation. Vincent has replanted medicinal plants on the estate, thus making it possible to strengthen the vines’ defences against diseases. The objective is, in the long term, to no longer use sulphur and copper in the treatment of fungal diseases. The objective is to limit, as much as possible, the use of sulphur and copper in the treatment of the vines.
A family close to its land
From one generation to the next, we like to pass on family photographs and memories to our descendants. Here, the treasure that has been passed down from father to son for seven generations is a sixty-hectare wine estate, managed in the spirit of sustainable agriculture since Vincent and Lucie took over.
The team
Although the team has grown beyond the family circle, the spirit remains the same. Everyone is there for one another during the most intense moments. We move forward with confidence, united by the same goal.
